With the recent global events with the Coronavirus crisis, where does that leave us real estate investors? Are we about to see a repeat of what happened in 2008? Or will the current turmoil be relatively short-lived ?
At the time of writing, we are in the midst of a global pandemic caused by the SARS - CoV-2 virus which causes the COVID-19 disease. It's a terrible time for so many people around the worlds. As a medical doctor I am seeing patients in the UK's National Health Service throughout the pandemic. I'm an Ophthalmologist and whilst we are not in ITU, as a profession, we are one of the highest risk group of doctors. In fact, the whistle blower in China who lifted the lid off the outbreak in Wuhan was an Ophthalmologist - who subsequently succumbed to the disease.
At the same time, I am an active real estate investor and am significantly currently invested in the market with a portfolio and ongoing refurbishment developments.
So, like so many other investors, the security of my family depends on my not becoming a victim and statistic to the Coronavirus pandemic, as well as navigating the real estate market.
Hence, whilst I am working in a professional capacity to look after my patients, I make no apologies for keeping a sharp eye on what is transpiring in the economies around the globe.
If you are a real estate investor with a significant portfolio and exposure, you will understand exactly why it is imperative to understand what is likely to happen over the next 12 months and thereafter too.
Firstly, let me say this - nobody has a crystal ball and can tell you precisely what is going to happen tomorrow.
However, if I told you that the economists who mentored me warned of a significant correction in the stock markets in 2020 - some 3 years ago in 2017, would you believe it?
Well, that's the truth.
Nobody knew that it was going to be a global pandemic that would drive the downturn in markets.
However, the 'timing' for the correction was understood to be most likely in 2020 after a very high end to stock market prices in 2019.
The million dollar question however, is - what next?
Should we expect a repeat of 2008 - 2012 where there was a slide in land and real estate values?
Or is there reason not to be so pessimistic and look ahead to a buoyant and strong real estate market?
This is where what I teach in my Boom Bust Insider program is invaluable information.
Why? Because once you have a deep understanding of what is happening, and why - then you will also understand what is the most likely scenario going forwards.
I, my mentors, and those who join the Boom Bust Insider program, have a fairly clear picture of what we expect and so, if we choose to, can harness that information to our own advantage and protect ourselves from potential losses that can be devastating.
Would that be useful or valuable for you?
